Prior to the opening of the SMV BETONG site, the school's original site was a thick forest known as Bukit Bangat. The government has chosen this place to be used as a school site. Initially this school was known as SM Vokasional Betong. It was officiated by the very honorable Tun Dr. Mathathir Mohammad, former prime minister of Malaysia on 13 September 1991. In 1999 he once again inaugurated the school as SM Teknik Betong. However, this school changed its name again in 2010 and was renamed BETONG VOCATIONAL SECONDARY SCHOOL
In the early 1990s, its development was not as complete as it is today. Many shortcomings have to be overcome by teachers and students. Electricity facilities had to use generator energy sources. Then change began to shine on the face of SMV Betong in the mid-90s. Many developments and facilities have been built in the school grounds. Even the increase in the number of teachers, staff and students is also significant. In 1997, the project to upgrade the school began and several new blocks were built, namely engineering study block, engineering class block, science lab, engineering drawing laboratory, two boys and girls dormitory blocks, main hall, surau, computer lab and pedestrian walkway in around the school grounds. The project was completed in 1999.
