In accordance with the current recognition, MARA Skills Training School has been renamed to MARA Skills Institute (IKM). It is now in the area of ??a village in Kg. Simpang Kerayong Jasin and built on a 46 hectare plot of land that is fully equipped with sophisticated and modern training equipment according to current developments realize the government's intention, MARA has set up a MARA Skills Training School on a 0.5-acre plot of land in Jalan Hang Tuah, Bandar Melaka, Melaka (Now MARA Professional College). It is the first Skills Training School in Malaysia. The MARA Skills Training School was officially opened by YAB Tun Haji Abdul Razak Bin Dato 'Husein, the 2nd Prime Minister of Malaysia in October 1968. It was administered by a principal (Mr. Abdul Hamid Bin Dato Haji Mohd Salleh), 8 instructors and 3 administrative staff. The courses conducted are only 2 courses, namely Motorcycling Course and Mechanical Course
Each of these areas has a basic training called "Common Module" which is broken down into several modules such as Welding, General Machining, Strengthening and Technical Drawing. In 1972 a new course was held which is Machinery Drawing and followed in 1975 a Tap and Car Paint Course. Demand for skilled manpower is increasing over time and the field of skills is increasing. Therefore, students who follow the field of skills training also increase. The MARA Skills Training School in Bandar Melaka cannot accommodate the increase in students in venturing into the increasingly significant field of skills. The relatively limited area there, caused the MARA administration at the upper level to move the Training School to a relatively large area in Pekan Jasin Melaka in January 1984.
