Gerik Technical School (Asymmetric) is a project in the Sixth Malaysia Plan (1995-1999), under the Ministry of Education in Technical and Vocational Education program. School starts on 1st November 1997 and was completed on 25 November 1999. Asymmetric was officiated by Dato 'Seri Mohd Najib b. Tun Abdul Razak, Minister of Education Malaysia. SEMETRIK is located 4 km from Gerik Town with an area of ??20.32 hectares. There is one administrative block and three academic blocks. In addition, there are other basic facilities, such as a large hall, canteen, surau that can accommodate 800 students, seven dormitory blocks (three women's dormitory blocks and four male dormitory blocks) and a dormitory dining hall.
Gerik Vocational College operates with the college system as a whole starting in 2014. The system of study is 30 percent academic and 70 percent focuses on skills. Learning time will also be extended from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. Admission starts from the PMR graduate stage. To enter this college, PMR graduates who pass the eligibility requirements can apply. A total of eight semesters or four years must be completed to obtain a Diploma. They also no longer need to sit for the SPM examination.
The first special thing we can see for these college graduates is getting a Diploma at a young age. They will also be a hit in the career market because they have high skills that is up to level four SKM. In fact, it is fortunate that studies are fully funded. With the aim that 10 percent of college graduates will become entrepreneurs, 70 percent will continue to work while another 20 percent will pursue higher education. The advantage of learning skills here is also to produce graduates who not only have a 'salary' mentality but are able to start their own business. ?Although the main focus is on improving skills, the government has also introduced soft modules to further enhance market capabilities.
