The Cabinet in a meeting on 5 July 2000 considered the Memorandum from the Minister of Education No. 398/2225/00 and agreed to the establishment of Community Colleges in each Parliamentary constituency. The concept of establishing a Community College is to provide alternative opportunities for secondary graduates who do not have the opportunity to further their education to a higher level. Community Colleges will also open up opportunities for employees and the local community to get organized education and skills training.
Miri Community College is the 42nd parent community college established in Malaysia and Miri Community College is one of the three parent community colleges in Sarawak under the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia which has been established since 01 June 2001.
